The short version
Pieces needs account, piece, market, subscription and device information to run the features you choose. You control profile and closet visibility. The Pieces app does not use your information for cross-app targeted advertising. Optional website measurement has separate choices described below.
Information you provide
Pieces processes account details such as your email address, display name, handle, sign-in provider and profile image. When you use the app, you may provide piece photos, product details, purchase and sale information, links, closet settings, posts, reactions, reports and support messages.
Information collected automatically
We process device and request information needed to operate, understand and secure Pieces, including IP address, app version, request time, app interactions, screen views, session timing, crash and error details, and an Apple push-notification token if you allow notifications.
Optional product analytics and third-party crash reporting are sent only after you allow analytics in the app. Essential app-crash, save and research diagnostics run independently of that choice so we can detect failures, restore unfinished work and prevent duplicate processing. Those records use account, piece and request identifiers, app versions, timestamps, stage and error codes, and bounded code-location or binary-offset references—not submitted photos, product names, raw error messages, authentication tokens or session-replay videos. Delayed Apple crash reports identify the account sending the report, not necessarily the account active when the crash happened. These records are kept in a bounded rolling log for up to 30 days and account-linked records are removed when you delete your account. Anonymous deletion-phase timings may remain in that rolling log to help us find slow or failed cleanup steps.
Website buttons leading to the App Store may be counted in aggregate without assigning a persistent website identifier. Pieces also receives subscription status and purchase-history information from app-store and subscription-management providers so paid features can be activated and restored.
Website analytics and advertising choices
Optional website analytics are off until you allow them in Website privacy choices. If allowed, we use PostHog to measure page visits, referring websites, campaign labels in links (UTM source, medium, campaign, content and term), and selected actions such as reading guides, downloading the inventory CSV, using the P&L preview or clicking a Coming soon button. A Coming soon click records interest; it is not an app installation or purchase.
We use browser storage to distinguish visits and remember the first campaign that brought you here for up to 90 days. A session attribution record expires after 30 minutes of inactivity, and your privacy choice is remembered for up to 180 days. We do not enable website session replay, automatic form capture, or identification using your Pieces account. Event URLs omit arbitrary query strings and fragments, and referrers are reduced to their domain. PostHog receives network requests and may process technical information needed to deliver its service; our configuration disables IP-based location enrichment.
Advertising measurement has its own optional choice, separate from PostHog analytics. If you allow it, the Meta and TikTok pixels record page visits on this website to measure Facebook, Instagram and TikTok advertising. These providers may use cookies and device or network information to associate those visits with advertising activity under their privacy policies. We do not send your Pieces account identity, email address or form entries to these pixels. Automatic advanced matching and automatic event setup are disabled, as is TikTok enhanced data postback. X and LinkedIn pixels are not connected. Your advertising choice covers the configured providers. Adding a provider requires a new advertising choice, while your website analytics choice is kept. Global Privacy Control keeps advertising measurement off; Do Not Track keeps optional website tracking off. These website settings do not change permissions in the Pieces app.
You can reject optional measurement or change your choice using in the footer or on this page. Withdrawing consent stops future optional collection and clears our attribution storage; it does not remove events already processed or third-party cookies outside this website's control. Contact us for a data request. Browser restrictions, blockers and missing campaign labels can leave some traffic unattributed.

How Pieces uses information
We use information to create and secure accounts, identify pieces, remove photo backgrounds, find and review public market evidence, calculate portfolio estimates, operate social features, send requested notifications, provide support, prevent abuse and improve reliability.
With your permission, we share the photos, product links, item details and sale proofs needed for your selected features with third-party AI, search, link-preview and hosting providers to identify pieces, find pricing information, import wishlist links and check content safety. Wishlist link previews send the submitted product URL to external services to retrieve its title and image; this does not run market research. You can withdraw permission in Account settings. In app versions with these permission controls, adding pieces and wishlist items, automatic pricing and publishing then become unavailable; browsing and hearting existing items remain available. Turning permission off stops new permission-controlled requests from that device; it does not undo work already submitted or delete existing records. Use account deletion to remove your account data.
Service providers
We use third-party services for sign-in, hosting, subscription management, optional analytics, error reporting, AI processing and market search. Depending on the feature you select, these providers process the account, device, purchase-status or uploaded-content information needed to deliver that feature.
- AI processing: OpenAI processes relevant photos, product links, item details and, when submitted for verification, sale proofs to identify items, review pricing evidence and check content safety.
- Search and listing retrieval: SerpApi, DataForSEO, Bright Data and eBay may receive image-search inputs, product queries, item details or listing URLs needed for the selected lookup. Not every provider is used for every item.
- Hosting: Railway hosts the Pieces service and the account and uploaded-content data needed to operate it.
- Subscriptions: Apple and RevenueCat process purchase, transaction and account identifiers needed to manage subscription access. Pieces does not receive your full payment-card details.
- Sign-in and messages: Apple or Google handles its respective sign-in method. Resend delivers sign-in emails. Apple's push-notification service delivers notifications using a device token when you allow them.
- Optional analytics: PostHog receives the usage and technical information described above only when the relevant analytics permission is enabled. Website advertising providers and their separate choices are listed in the website measurement section.
These disclosures describe data recipients, not the internal design of our identification or pricing system. Optional analytics and photo-processing permissions are separate choices; allowing one does not allow the other. You can change your choices in Account settings. Provider processing is subject to applicable service and privacy terms.
Wishlist link previews
Microlink receives the product URL you submit to retrieve its page title and image. This is separate from market research. The photo and link processing choice controls this import; browsing and hearting existing items does not require importing a new link.
Public and private information
Your privacy choices control whether your profile, closet pieces and posts are visible to others. Purchase price, receipts and private photos are not included in public closet projections. Opening an external merchant link takes you to that merchant, whose own privacy policy then applies.
Retention and deletion
We retain account information while your account is active and as needed to operate Pieces. To permanently delete your account, open Lab → settings gear, then hold the small red DELETE button near the bottom for two seconds. In the centered DELETE ACCOUNT? confirmation, choose DELETE ACCOUNT. You can also open Documents & Support → Account & Data Deletion from those account settings to reach the same confirmation.
This removes your account, closet, posts, social connections, saved research and registered notification devices. Limited security records or backups may remain temporarily where reasonably necessary for fraud prevention, legal compliance or system recovery.

You can change profile and sharing settings in the app, revoke photo, camera or notification permission in iOS Settings, and review the complete controls on Your Privacy Choices.
Children
Pieces is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
